Seminars, Workshops, Courses

All workshops are run as seminar-style courses. They run over a period from three to ten weeks, with readings and homework assigned, with the aid of mentorship and input from fellow attendees. All participants must fill out a needs assessment form prior to your workshop so that I can better assess your needs, tailor supplementary materials that speak to your issues, and focus on areas of greatest importance.

Workshops are practical, hands-on, one-on-one, or small group. Here is a list of some of our topics:

Marketing Action Plan Development

Are you starting a new sideline or project? Do you have goals for your personal art practice or business, but feel overwhelmed or lack clarity on how to accomplish them? Do others perceive what you do differently from how you see your business? Are your visual materials out of date or inconsistent? Has your business changed focus? Are you disconnected from your audience or lack the skills to build a strong client base? Are you able to identify what is unique about what you do? Are you harnessing the Internet effectively?

The creation of a solid marketing plan will help you to clarify your goals, identify your perferred audience and clients, and enable you to understand and convey your unique hook. Upon completion, participants will have a an action plan, comprised of a promotional and sales strategy, and a basic on-line administrative structure in place.

Creating Partnerships & Alliances

Learn how to build a sponsorship, partnership and alliance strategy that will support both the financial, logistical and day-to-day needs of running your business, producing your events, or supporting your project. Understand and make use of the benefits in partnering with umbrella organizations, your competition, and other artists. This workshop will teach you: how to package your business, project or event and approach potential supporters, how and when you should follow up, how to properly devise acknowledgement offerings that take into account cash, in-kind and volunteer donations, and how to nurture donor, fellow business, and community relationships to enable future support.

Managing with Volunteers

Whether it's your staff that is overextended, or perhaps yourself as a solo venture, volunteers are an undeniable resource forming the backbone of ALL micro and small artist-led businesses and creative non-profits. It goes without saying that a solid volunteer program, both virtual and on-site, can make a huge difference in productivity, skill sharing and community building. Learn how to create a manageable volunteer program and policy that sources, utilizes and acknowledges the skills and time of these donors in order to retain them.
